When we decided to visit Universal Orlando Resort, we knew one thing: we wanted to have fun without feeling like we were on a tight schedule. And honestly? That plan worked out even better than we hoped.
We gave ourselves four days to explore Universal Studios Florida, Islands of Adventure, and (we tried to visit) Volcano Bay. Spreading things out gave us the breathing room to really enjoy everything without feeling rushed. If you're thinking about going but are worried it might be too hectic—don't be. With the right approach, it can be low-stress and full of amazing memories.
One big thing that helped: we didn’t set alarms. Yep, we slept in every morning. Most days we didn’t even make it to the parks until around noon—and that was perfectly fine. Thanks to the flexibility of the Park-to-Park tickets and After 4 PM Express Passes, we were able to experience everything we had hoped to.
The Express Passes were a game-changer. They let us skip the regular lines (one time per ride with the After 4 PM version), and since the parks stayed open until 9:00 or 10:00 PM, we had 5–6 hours each evening to hit all the big rides. Plus, using the Universal Orlando app to check real-time wait times saved us a ton of walking and guessing. Instead of sticking to a rigid plan, we just pulled up the app, saw what had the shortest wait, and headed that way.
Having the Park-to-Park tickets made a huge difference too. Being able to bounce between Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure meant we could take advantage of lower waits or squeeze in an extra ride or two. (Bonus: it also meant we could ride the Hogwarts Express, which is not only super cute but a relaxing way to move between the parks.)
We stayed off-site at CoCo Key Hotel & Water Resort, which wasn’t luxury by any means, but it was clean, had a fun water park for the girls, and was a quick Uber ride away from Universal. We didn’t bother with the hotel shuttle because the times were a little awkward, but Uber worked fine—sometimes $5, sometimes $25 depending on the time of day.
Refillable drink cups: We bought one for $20 and shared it. Unlimited soda refills on day one and free water the other days kept us hydrated and saved us money.
Lockers for rides: The thrill rides (like VelociCoaster and The Mummy) require you to stash your stuff in lockers. They have free ones at each ride—you just scan your park ticket to open and close them.
Dining: The Three Broomsticks in Hogsmeade was hands-down our favorite meal. The food was hearty, and sitting inside felt like being part of the Wizarding World. We ate later in the evening when it was less crowded allowing us to relax and enjoy the experience.
Evening show: Don’t miss the Hogwarts Castle light show if you’re around Hogsmeade after dark. It runs every 20 minutes and is pure magic.
By giving ourselves plenty of time, using Express Passes smartly, and leaning on the app to guide us, we got to do everything we wanted—and made some pretty amazing memories along the way. It felt relaxed, fun, and totally manageable.
Don’t be afraid to sleep in—you don’t have to rope-drop to have a great day.
